Singletrack Minds’ Dan grew up hopping around the streets of Liverpool on his trials bike, seeking ever more challenging features on which to land his back wheel. Years later, after moving to the Lake District and developing a passion for mountain bikes, he continues to scour his surroundings for mountable objects, however, these days, rather than walls and railings, it’s the Lakes’ wide array of massive slabs that are the subject of his obsession. What most riders might see as a challenging drop or rock roll, Dan views from the ground up, and sets about scaling it as cleanly as possible.
Fortunately he has like minded friends who are patient enough to catch his exploits on camera, because if it’s not on Insta, it didn’t happen, right? Among these, is talented local photographer and film maker, Ben Gerrish of HDDN Media, who not only takes Insta-bangers, but shoots some of the most captivating and creative mountain biking films around.
This particular slab, christened ‘The Wave’, became the focus of Dan and Ben’s attention last year, and after several painstaking (in the most literal sense of the word) shoots, Ben produced this sweet edit.
The film is the first in a series that focuses on enjoying the ride rather than just getting the miles in, which is something we’re wholeheartedly on board with. Don’t worry though, Dan won’t be guiding you up any massive slabs.
